About the Artist

"To me, art all comes down to being true to yourself.

I don't try to follow trends, and while I admire other artists,

I'm more interested in what makes their painting work

than in emulating their style."

Patricia Nelson Graves renders her work in a plethora of media,

and while commissioned work often requires a conservative approach, her scenes of horses and the Montana landscape

are decidedly impressionistic.

Regardless, color, form and light are important elements

of all her paintings.

Among the awards Patricia Nelson Graves has received are:

Best of Show,

Calgary Stampede's Western Art Show

John B. Clymer Award,

National Western Art Show

Other awards in the United States and Canada

Her work has been featured in the Western Horseman and

Equine Images, as well as regional publications such as

The Racing Journal.

Artist's Statement

I don't think of myself

as being all that "creative," in the true sense of the word.

I can't imagine a scene in my mind and then

transfer it to canvas or paper.

Instead, I find so much in the everyday world around me

that I'd like to preserve and share.

I frequently try to capture those fleeting moments with a camera.

Sometimes photos will be used

at a later date as the foundation

for a painting, drawing or sculpture,

but occasionally the photographic image itself is worthy of consideration as art.

I find almost as much satisfaction in taking a good picture

as in producing artwork,

and I hope others will appreciate

what I'm trying to accomplish with both.
